Hello there, my name is James Murdock, and I’m honored you are taking the time to learn why I am running for mayor. Right now, Moose Jaw has an incredible opportunity to shape its future—to build a city we’re all proud of, grow our economy, and welcome families and visitors to a community that feels like home.
After many years in the funeral profession, I recently retired and was able to refocus on something that has always been close to my heart: community. I have no preconceived notions—just a passion for building a better future for Moose Jaw, and the drive to turn talk into action, digging in and getting it done.
I grew up in Central Butte, where I learned the values of hard work, community, and family. Over 30 years ago, I moved to Moose Jaw, met a beautiful Moose Jaw girl, who I know call my wife, Bev, and together we have raised our daughters, Sydney and Jenna, in this amazing city. Today, I want nothing more than to see Moose Jaw continue to thrive—a place that brings together families and businesses, welcomes visitors, and truly lives up to being “The Friendly City.”
If elected, together we can make Moose Jaw a business-friendly city by cutting red tape, streamlining permits, and attracting new industries to support local growth. By investing in Moose Jaw’s unique attractions, we can boost tourism and drive more revenue for local businesses.
We can make Moose Jaw a place where young professionals want to build their futures through education, career opportunities, and a welcoming community.
Finally, we can prioritize infrastructure, modernizing our public services, repairing roads, and securing funding for long-term growth—all while ensuring open communication so every resident’s voice is heard.
With the unwavering support of my family, I am committed to inspiring our community to work together, to build a city we’re all proud of, and to get Moose Jaw back to being the friendly city, a place where everyone feels safe, welcome and connected. Thank you for your trust and support as we embark on this journey.
Take a look at some of the questions I’ve been asked during interviews, community forums, and casual conversations around town. If there’s something on your mind that isn’t covered here, I’d love to hear from you!
